Dr. Neeru Sood

Dr. Neeru Sood is a Professor & Head of Biotechnology department at BITS Pilani Dubai Campus. She completed her Bachelors and Master Degree from Punjabi University Patiala and Doctorate in Plant Sciences (Plant Tissue culture) from Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana. After completing her Ph. D, she worked as a Biotechnologist (Tissue Culture) in R&D Center of a sugar cane industry, Punjab. She independently established & run a modern tissue culture laboratory funded by Punjab Govt. to promote Hi-Tech, agriculture in the state before joining Biological Sciences Group BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus Rajasthan in the year 2000. After serving for BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, India for five years in Biological Sciences Department, she was deputed to BITS Pilani Dubai Campus in the year 2005.

She has been instrumental in designing and also developing Biotechnology curriculum for BITS Pilani Dubai Campus since its inception in 2007. Over the years, she has taught several undergraduate and graduate level courses. In addition to teaching she had also held many administrative positions as Chief Warden Girls, Head of Department Biotechnology and Associate Dean of Academic Research, member of various institutional committees and task force teams, member of professional bodies as well as organizing committee and international advisory member of various conferences. She has been involved in building collaboration with USUSH, Maryland, Ulster University to name a few. She has guided two Ph. D students and supervised several first-degree projects, thesis & Dissertation in the area of plant biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, microbiology, nanotechnology and few other interdisciplinary areas.

With over 24 years of experience, Dr. Sood has coordinated research work on ‘Isolation and characterization of stress tolerant rhizobial strains & physiological and genetic basis of salinity response in cereals with International Center for Bio-saline Agriculture (ICBA), UAE, completed couple of projects and is currently guiding collaborative research project on Evaluating the biofertilizer, nutritional  and therapeutic potential of marine flora from the coastal region of Dubai & Abu Dhabi. She has organized many international conferences and published papers in reputed international and national journals and was invited to present her work during national and international conferences.
