Dr. Jayarama Reddy is a Professor at St. Joseph’s University, Bengaluru, where he teaches Botany, Bioinformatics, and Biostatistics to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. His primary field of specialization is biotechnology, and he has conducted significant research at the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
Dr. Reddy earned his Ph.D. in Biotechnology of Orchids from Bangalore University in 2002. He also undertook research as a short-term research fellow with Dr. C.S. Vaidyanathan in the Department of Biochemistry at IISc. His research interests include gene cloning, and he has worked with renowned scientists such as Dr. Seetharam Annadana and Dr. Von Don Boss from Wageningen University, the Netherlands. Dr. Reddy was instrumental in establishing the St. Joseph’s Institute of Gene Technology in collaboration with Wageningen University.
In addition to his research, Dr. Reddy has collaborated with Dr. Hung Ming Wong, Emeritus Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), on environmental science projects and co-authored the book A Better Earth is Possible. He has completed five research projects funded by agencies like the UGC and DST and holds two patents. Notably, he studied the Magee-1 cancer-related protein, which he deposited in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) under the identifier 2H5T.
Dr. Reddy has published 100 research papers and 12 books. He completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education from Indira Gandhi National Open University in 1999, securing first rank and a Gold Medal at the all-India level. He has organized over 100 academic events, including seminars, workshops, and conferences at both national and international levels.
His contributions to science have been recognized with several awards, including the “Eminent Scientist Award-2015” from the National Environmental Science Academy, the “Scroll of Honour” from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, the “Dronacharya Award” for Academic Excellence from the International Society of Gene and Cell Therapy and Gene Research Foundation, and the “J. Agarwal Gold Medal Award” from the International Society of Gene and Cell Therapy. In 2021, he was honored with the “Puraskara Award.”
Dr. Reddy has also pursued additional education in Psychology from Yale University and Schizophrenia from Wesleyan University in 2022. He runs an educational YouTube channel, “Dr. Jayarama Reddy,” featuring 600 videos and offers online courses on Narcotic Plants, Bioinformatics, and Plant-Based Drugs. In August 2024, he was granted a German Patent on Molecular Docking of plant-based drug molecules, a global utility patent with broad applications in medical sciences. He currently serves as the Director of Gurukulum Global Residential School and as a Scientific Advisor to Pattern Intellectual Labs, LLP.
