Dr. S. Venkateswara Sharma, known as Dr. S.V. Sharma, worked as Deputy Director and Program Director at URRao  Satellite Centre, Bangalore, and was in charge of determining all the flight hardware for all the satellites of ISRO. He has been working at ISRO for more than 35 years. In his service, he has contributed significantly to the design, development, and fabrication of satellites in various capacities.

Dr. S.V. Sharma’s Education Background: He graduated with an electronics and communication engineering degree from Mysore University (1985), India. His Master’s Degree (M.tech) during the year 1991 from the Indian Institute of Science and his Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) during the year 2008 in the field of Electronic design from the Department of Center For Electronic Design Technology (CEDT), Indian Institute Of Science, Bangalore, India. He had been a meritorious student all along his studies. He has a very interesting tie-up with institutions. He is one of the ISRO–Academia interaction links in ISRO. In this capacity, he has encouraged several joint programs, including Student Satellites.

  • Dr. S.V. Sharma is a passionate, dedicated, and strong space technologist who has not left any stone unturned in bringing success to this esteemed organization. Leads a strong team of about 400 Engineers and technocrats. URSC is the lead Centre of ISRO and the most prestigious workplace. The Centre is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, realizing, and producing all types of Satellites, namely Earth observation satellites, Communication satellites, Navigation Satellites, and Interplanetary missions such as Chandrayaan and Mars Orbiter Mission. Dr Sharma is part of the policy-making body that formulates policies for satellites and launch vehicles for all national needs. He is a great visionary & strategist with a very strong Will & Conviction.
  • As part of strategic planning, as visionary and think tank of the ISRO, laid down an innovative, efficient strategy for the 12th five-year plan, including the realization strategy, viz. planning the establishment of required infrastructure, resources, industry participation, technology roadmaps, etc. This makes him demand very high respect in ISRO.
  • Dr Sharma Spare headed the prestigious, internationally acclaimed, National pride, technologically challenging, and maiden successful Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM). His efforts are remarkable and commendable. Contributor to realizing the Mission to Moon, Chandrayaan1 and Chandrayaan 2.
  • Dr. Sharma’s Excellence is not limited to national acclamation, but his untiring efforts to harness various international agencies to achieve the objectives of the Indian Space program are commendable. He masterminded international cooperation and commerce and acquaintances with JPL, ESA, ESCC, launch agreements, MOU for space technologies, etc. He also had proficiencies to impress internationally. Participation in these international opportunities has earned a reputation & revenue for the organization and the nation.
  • Along with providing the required thrust towards increased throughput of the Centre, as a firm believer in indigenization, he has been successful in collaborating with the harness industry to meet space demands.
  • Given the increased demand, Dr. Sharma has been instrumental in bringing synergy to the system through parallel planning as part of an effective realization strategy. Visualization and efforts towards collaboration with Indian industries towards space program realization and the spin-off lifting technology & quality capabilities to the space level, thereby improving the standards of Indian industry, are noteworthy. URSC supports more than 150 large, medium & small-scale industries.
